Tuned in to success: Sandra Deluca's encore in sales excellence at TPG Telecom

Sandra Deluca has always been passionate about music, but a career in the industry didn’t strike the right chord. It only confirmed that her true passion is people. The music teacher turned Account Manager thrives on building strong client relationships. And at TPG Telecom, Sandra’s found the perfect stage for her talents to shine.

Setting the stage

Setting the stage

“It’s my belief that having a passion for your work is what gets you far in life. I loved music, but it was such a competitive industry, and I had reached a point in my life where it wasn’t making me happy anymore. I always loved developing relationships with my students, and in sales, that’s what you need. You need to build rapport and trust with your clients to be successful. I think that’s been my secret.”

In Sandra Deluca’s eyes, sales is a performance. It’s shining a spotlight on her best and boldest self, giving it her all, and still feeling the warmth of satisfaction long after she’s headed home for the day. Sandra is no stranger to the stage but admits the afterglow of a successful day at TPG Telecom feels just as gratifying.

It’s this innate skill that made Sandra’s transition from teaching to telecommunications effortless. In 2008, after a brief stint in customer service, she secured a role with Vodafone as an Account Manager and knew she’d found her place. She says she never would have left if it weren’t for a business restructure.

“I found a job with another organisation in the telco industry, but when I saw TPG and Vodafone merge in 2020, my first thought was, ‘We’re stuffed.’ TPG and Vodafone are such strong brands people loved Vodafone for their customer service and competitive pricing, and I knew TPG had an exceptionally strong fibre offering. The second thought I had was, ‘How do I get a job there?’”

Relationships matter most

Relationships matter most

“Developing relationships with clients and keeping them happy is what I do best. And it’s funny, when I started at TPG, it just felt like I was back at Vodafone. In the merger, they embraced the Vodafone culture and customer experience, which I loved and had really missed in my other telco roles. It felt like I had come home.”

In 2022, a former colleague of Sandra’s reached out to see if she was interested in an Account Manager role with TPG Telecom, with one key difference. He told Sandra they were seeking a more proactive approach: where she wouldn’t be waiting for the phone to ring; she could pick it up herself and bring her exceptional people skills to the forefront. Immediately, Sandra knew it would be a great fit.

Sandra’s role as Account Manager is pivotal to keeping our customers connected. Looking after 300-plus clients in enterprise and government industries, her relationship-building skills come in clutch when determining which TPG Telecom services best suit their business needs.

“I think their trust in the brand comes from having a dedicated Account Manager looking after them. I meet with my clients every quarter to check in on how their service is performing, and if we need to make any changes, they trust me to find the best value. Why would you want to look anywhere else when you’ve got someone like that in your corner?”

Despite nearly two decades in the telecommunications industry, the vast capability at TPG Telecom means it would be nearly impossible for Sandra to have all the answers. So, she loves that she can always count on having expert support at her fingertips.

“I’m actually not a technical person at all. I know the basics, but the beauty of TPG is that we have a specialist for every capability. So, if I discover an opportunity for one of my clients to add on to their services, I can bring a specialist in to talk to them and design the best solution for their needs. It makes it easy.”

A fulfilling future

A fulfilling future

“Flexibility is important for me as a mum, and the hybrid style of working between home and the office is perfect. I get two days in the office to collaborate and socialise with my colleagues, and then three days working from home where I can do the school pick up and be there for my kids. It just works so well.”

Now that Sandra has found her way home to the TPG Telecom family, she’s in it for the long haul. In addition to the fulfilment she gets from delivering exceptional service, Sandra loves that TPG’s culture of support enables her to find the perfect harmony between work and life.

As happy and comfortable as Sandra is in her role, she also looks forward to the future that awaits her. Whether it's upwards, sideways or somewhere unexpected, there are opportunities everywhere, and she’s excited to make them happen at TPG.

“You have to dream; otherwise, what are we here on this earth for? I’d love to lead a team because I’m so good with people, and I think my experiences as a teacher and a mum would be a really natural fit. But I just love TPG. I genuinely believe in the product, and it’s got everything I need. I’ve found my place.”
