Disability

At TPG Telecom we are dedicated to empowering the potential within every individual and playing a pivotal role in building a society where disability inclusion is not just a goal but an integral part of our success.

With an estimated 4.4 million Australians living with disability, our vision is to create awareness, provide support and challenge bias and stigmas for our customers, people and community living with disability. In pursuit of this vision, we pledge to continuously educate, adapt, and advocate for a more inclusive future.

Key Disability Inclusion Initiatives:

Workplace Adjustments
A workplace adjustment is a modification to a work process, practice, procedure or setting that enables a person with disability to perform their job in a way that minimises the impact of barriers they face at work. We are committed to consulting with employees and candidates to understand their needs and consider support options.

Access and Inclusion Index
We are a proud member of the Australian Disability Network and have completed our first benchmark assessment using its Access and Inclusion Index. This important step on our accessibility journey will provide us with rich insights and recommendations to inform our long-term strategy and Disability Inclusion Access Plan.

Disability Network Alliance
In 2023 we established ‘DNA’ (Disability Network Alliance), a dedicated group of employees passionate about accessibility in all its forms, either as people with lived experience of disability or as allies. This employee network has a continued focus on increasing education, awareness and support for employees and leaders.

Accessibility of Our Services
We have a responsibility to ensure customers can easily access and navigate our websites and mobile apps. This includes customers with disability, elderly customers, and customers with temporary injuries. In 2022, we established an internal Accessibility Working Group to drive improvements across all aspects of our digital footprint. This group successfully progressed a number of important initiatives, including:

  • Conducting ’The Human Experience’ workshop to enhance our employees' understanding of the challenges faced by customers with disabilities when using our digital platforms. It aimed to foster empathy, raise awareness, educate the team on our accessibility obligations and help to identify ways we can create better digital experiences for our customers.
  • Working with our Experience Design Team to incorporate Accessibility documentation within the UI library for a number of our design systems.
  • Developing a formal process for reporting accessibility issues across our technology platforms.
  • Conducting an accessibility review for a selection of our brands.
  • Implementing an Accessibility Monitoring platform, to enable us to monitor accessibility compliance in real-time.

Partnerships
The TPG Telecom Foundation is also proud to partner with four charities specialising in services and programs to positively impact the lives of people with a disability, including Guide Dogs, Missing School, Starlight Children's Foundation and Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Some recent initiatives include:

  • Sponsoring Akuna, our Guide Dog puppy who we get to follow on their two-year journey through infancy, assessment and training, all the way to graduation.
  • A 'hackathon' event ran in collaboration with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT to come up with new ways to make the customer experience more inclusive and accessible when interacting with our brands. Some incredible solutions were devised by 7 teams across the business.
